carpet cleaningOur daughter recently spilled a big cup of red Kool-Aid on our light brown carpet. If we weren’t so educated about removing stains from carpet, we probably would have been freaking out. We know that these types of stains hit thousands of carpets around the country every day so we wanted to share with you some tips on how to get the stains out. Try these first before paying a carpet cleaning company to come out and clean your carpets because you might just save yourself a pretty penny.

Step 1

You’re going to want to soak the stain with a specific set of ingredients. To get rid of the stain, you’re going to need white vinegar, regular everyday dish soap, and water.  Use a few table spoons of vinegar and dish soap, and mix those 2 ingredients with water into a spray bottle. Once you shake up the water bottle, go ahead and spray the stain until it is soaked with the mixture you created.

Step 2

Once the stain is soaked with your mixture, you’re going to want to let it sit for about 10 to 20 minutes. The mixture is going to create a small chemical reaction that’s going to unbound the stain from the fibers in the carpet.

Step 3

Once you’ve let the mixture sit for a while, you’re going to want to blot the stain with a clean cloth. It’s very important not to rub the stain because that will actually make things worse. When you blot the stain, you’re actually taking the chemicals out of the carpet. When you rub the stain, you’re actually reversing everything that you just did.

These tips can get pretty much any stain out of carpet. There are some exceptions to the rule, especially if it’s a stain that’s been there for months and even years. These types of more sever stains might require professional grade equipment to get them out.  Just in case you don’t have any success removing your stain with the steps described above, we wanted to give you one more kind of peculiar tip to try before dishing out cash to have your stain removed.

Alcohol is a very effective stain remover, so after you try our first mixture and you can’t get that pesky stain out, try to splash some beer on it. Yes you read that correctly, beer is the answer to your problem. In fact, only a little bit of beer can take you a long way when it comes to stain removal, so after you pour some of your beer onto the carpet, we highly recommend drinking the rest while you’re getting that stain out. By now you probably love us because you’re a little buzzed from that beer and you’re glowing because we solved your problem in getting that ugly a** stain out of your carpet. Cheers!
